The Importance of Fire Safety

Different people may look at fire at different perspectives. It is essential to help us survive. We use it daily for cooking and heating our food. Some can’t even take a shower without heating up their water. However, some people, especially those who have had bad experiences with fire, consider it as traumatic. So let us discuss the importance of fire safety here.

Fire is very dangerous if not managed correctly. This is why it is important to discuss with your entire family, especially the kids, on how to deal with fire properly. One costly mistake can put your entire house into flames and in a few minutes, damage the property that you have put almost your lifetime savings on. While most causes of fire are unintentional or by accidents, it would be good to know what to do in case you are subjected to the situation.

Fire Prevention is Always Better

If you could prevent it, then do it. If you have little kids at home, make sure you keep fire starters away from them. This includes electric outlets, lighters and matches.  It is also best if you have your own fire extinguisher at home. While we know that fire extinguishers can save your property the moment a fire ignites at home, most people in Davao do not actually appreciate the benefit of having their own fire extinguishers at home yet. It can put off a small fire immediately and prevent it from going big as you wait for the fire fighters to arrive.

When installing electrical wirings at home, it is but important to have it installed by an electrician. They know which wires you must use and they can give you advice based on the load capacity that you need for your electrical requirements. Never do it yourself, unless you are an electrician.

Have an Escape Plan

Educating all the members of the family about an escape plan in case of a fire depending on their location in your house can greatly help in terms of survival. It can also help if you know what numbers to call in case of fire. In case you are inside and trapped in thick smoke, make sure you crawl down. If you are near a water source, get a piece of clothing and wet it with water and use it to cover your nose.

Nobody wants to ever have an experience with fire. However, these are things that we need to prepare for. Knowing the importance of fire safety can help save lives and property. Inform your family and friends now. Share this post and they might just thank you for it.
